Uses:
Limelite Heritage Lime Mortar is a cement-free blend of natural hydraulic lime and selected aggregates. The mortar is highly workable and combines long-term flexibility and breathability with durability. The mortar is available with two aggregate grades, 2mm and 4mm, in two strength options of M2.5 & M5.0, all in a range of 6 colours.
Features:
- Lime based, Portland cement free
- Long term durability and flexibility
- Easy to use, just add water
- Masonry walls built with Limelite Heritage Lime Mortar have improved breathability – increasing the resistance to frost and damp
- Lime based mortars are less susceptible to sulphate attack
- The flexible nature of Limelite Heritage Lime Mortar means that a reduced amount of vertical movement joints are required and this reduces the chance of cracking
- Factory supplied and quality controlled
- Suitable for use in listed and heritage buildings
- Environmentally friendly - Lime mortars actively absorb CO2 from the atmosphere
Product Description:
Limelite Heritage Lime Mortar is a lime based cement free mortar used for brick laying, block laying and stone masonry work for internal and external applications.
Limelite Heritage Lime Mortar is available in 0-4mm and 0-2mm aggregate sizes for thin joint application.
Range of colours
Limelite Heritage Lime Mortar is available in six standard colours. A colour matching service
is available allowing us to match samples from our client’s site.
Breathable
Lime mortars are vapour permeable - allowing moisture to evaporate and buildings breathe.
This significantly reduces the risk of trapped moisture, damage to building fabric and mould
growth. Eliminating trapped moisture in brickwork reduces the risk of frost damage and
significantly improves thermal efficiency.
Flexible
The flexibility of Lime mortars significantly reduce the risk of cracking and allow for slight
movement and thermal expansion throughout the life of the building.
Reduces the need for movement joints
Cement mortars are brittle and typically require a significant amount of movement joints.
Lime is far less susceptible to this and requires less than half the amount of joints that
cement mortar requires.
Easy to Use
Limelite Heritage Lime Mortars are easy to use, just add water and mix.
Sustainable
Lime is produced at a far lower temperature than cement, therefore requiring significantly
less energy to produce. Lime has a unique ability to absorb carbon dioxide from the
atmosphere, further minimising the total CO2 emissions.
Responsibly Sourced
All of our products are manufactured in the UK and certified under BES 6001 Responsible
sourcing. Tarmac was the first company within the cement and lime sectors to be awarded
the BES6001 ‘Excellent’ rating across its entire product range.

Mixing Instructions Limelite Heritage Lime Mortars should be mixed using cool, clean water. Limelite Heritage Lime Mortars can be mixed using a conventional Belle type mixer. The inside of the mixer should be wetted and then the contents of the Limelite Heritage Lime Mortar bag should be emptied into the mixer whilst stationary. Approximately 5 litres of water will be required for each 25 kg bag of Limelite Heritage Lime Mortar.
A small amount of the water should be added to the dry powder and the mixer should be turned on. The water should be allowed to thoroughly disperse into the mix before adding more water. Continue adding small amounts of water until 4.5 litres has been added allowing the thorough dispersion after each addition. Allow the mortar to mix for between 5 to 10 minutes and then add the remaining water to achieve the required consistency. Slightly more or less water may be required and the consistency can be checked by placing a small amount of mortar on to the back of a trowel tapping it gently and allowing the mortar to spread evenly across the face, then hold the trowel upside down at which point the mortar should remain stuck. The workability of the mortar can be improved by allowing it to stand and then remixing it just before use.
Yield One 25kg bag of Limelite Heritage Lime Mortar will lay approximately 25 bricks with a 10mm joint for a single brick skin or 1000 bricks per tonne of mortar. For re-pointing one 25kg bag will produce approximately 2.8m2 with a 10mm joint. One tonne of Limelite Heritage Lime Mortar will lay a maximum of 1,000 no. 65mm bricks or 600 no. 100mm blocks or 430 no. 140mm blocks. No wastage factor is allowed.
Clean Up & Spillages Tools and equipment can easily be cleaned using water. Cleaning of tools and equipment should be carried out as soon as possible after application.
