Making historic homes more sustainable

Limelite products have an important role in optimising the thermal efficiency of old buildings and making them healthy places to live, work and spend leisure time.

Britain’s housing reflects the depth of our history, with homes dating from 1600’s still in use today. With the rising cost of energy and home heating there is a need to make these homes as comfortable and thermally efficient as possible within the constraints imposed by the original structure of the building and local planning requirements.

Find out more about how to improve thermal efficiency and prevent damp and mould in heritage homes, in our ‘how to’ guides.

Repurposing buildings for the future

Unprecedented change in working patterns and shopping habits, combined with acute shortages in housing means that there will be a need to repurpose shops and offices for new uses.

Limelite supply the specialist renovating plasters, mortars and grouts cements needed to sensitively adapt, repurpose and extend old buildings. We can also help advise on the choice of materials and colour match mortars to effectively blend the old and the new.

Limelite plasters and mortars and flood resilience

With growing concerns about extreme weather and the risk of flooding of homes, there is increasing interest in flood resilience and the ability of homes and outbuildings to that are at risk to recover quickly from flooding events.

Limelite renovating plaster is breathable so it can be applied to damp walls, while still allowing moisture to be released and is quick drying. This allows flood repairs to be completed quickly, helping residents and businesses to get back into their properties. The breathable nature also enables walls to dry out faster in the unfortunate event of future flooding, making homes and commercial premises more resilient.

Find out more about how we can help match mortars or use the Limelite breathable plaster system to line basements, in our ‘how to’ guides.
